Give a historic and analytical overview of special educational needs Essay
Give a historic and analytical overview of special educational needs (SEN) provision in England 1870 to present - Essay ExampleToday every(prenominal) teachers should expect to teach children with special educational needs and all civilises should play their part in educating children from their local community, whatever their background or ability. Training for teachers, purloin funding for schools and improvements in the way their achievements are judged is vital (SEN, 2010). Although training is not always equalized, significant progress has been made. In 1870, the Elementary Education Act was complete by Liberal MP William Forster started to standardize education, and made provision for the elementary education of all children aged 5-13 and established school boards to oversee and complete the net of schools and to bring them all under some form of supervision (Education, 2010). However, at the time, SEN children were often seen as a blight on society, better isolated in ins titutions rather than mainstreamed with their peers. Theoretically, there has been a change in terms of how special needs and handicapped children are treated by educational and healthcare systems since. Unfortunately, special education programs are a recent phenomenon and parents, teachers, and other professionals therefore should know that special group programs only began to become widespread in the last menti whizzd half of the twentieth century, as the public perception of institutions began to change and the government began to shift the parameters used for classifying disabilities. At the beginning of the 20th century, some accountability for SEN children had started to wraith into the legislation, albeit not in a very strongly worded way. Not surprisingly, therefore, the Elementary Education (Defective and Epileptic Children) Act of 1899 empowered - but did not require - school boards to provide for the education of mentally and physically defective and epileptic children (Education, 2010). As the 20th century progressed, a shift towards group programs became more popular, especially for high-functioning handicapped student individuals, and special education services became more widespread as well, leading to a decrease in the number of functioning individuals with disabilities being cumber to home or institutional life. This gradually progressive process is spoken of in terms of deinstitutionalization as well as socialization and inclusion. As one thinker notes, It is not fully clear who among the deinstitutionalized population would have been the long-stay patients in earlier areas (Special, 2007). Often the process of institutional facility offered by long-stay programs is impaired by the perception that these programs keep socially maladjusted individuals from encountering problems in a complex outside world that is often defined by the same sense of margin offered. During the first half of the twentieth century, before more environmentally inc lusive programs were offered, many individuals were constrained in adolescence and held well into middle age. In many circles, everyday wisdom still seems to articulate that psychotherapy is an appropriate treatment method. But the number of group therapy patients has combined with many private-sector programs which can differ from state to state and region to region, in terms of prevalence. After the first World War, Lloyd George set about an ambitious programme of post-war social reform the national insurance system was extended to cover almost all workers, old age pensions were doubled, local authority house building

The idea of love in john donne and shakespeare Essay
The idea of acknowledge in john donne and shakespeare - Essay modelingIt is like a little song that states a problem, explores the implications and resolves the dilemma. In many ways, Shakespeares and Donnes poetry are familiar alone progress to contrasts as well. This paper will focus on the idea of savor as portrayed by the two in their sonnets (Blair, 2005). Shakespeares sonnets are divided in three groups as they address three different people while Donnes are divided in two parts the witty love and religious merit. Shakespeares sonnet 130 shows how he makes fun at the courtly conventions during those days. This love sonnet mocks how other people think of love but it does non undermine his mistresss beauty. While other people compare the lips to coral, in the sonnet he says that coral is far more bolshy than her lips. Shakespeare says she would love her even if her breast were dun. In his love sonnets, Shakespeare writes for a wider audience and tries to convince them to s ee things from his perspective. Shakespeare uses a different language to express love, for obiter dictum he quotes if hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head. In love poems, many poets will make the hair look soft, long and belike golden (Shakespeare and Booth, 2000). In a love sonnet, the reader will not expect a language like black wires on the head or dun breasts. ... Shakespeare uses a dark lady to depict beauty and love which is the opposite of renaissance love poetry. This interprets love to be an internal force that have power even over the external forces such as looks. According to Shakespeare, love is more than the looks, material things and romance (Martin, 2010). In sonnet 73, Shakespeare seems to be the speaker, and is appeal for love to grow stronger. He uses a soothing and humble tone in this sonnet. In sonnet 116, the ideal love according to Shakespeare is the kind that perseveres and does not wear with time. He states love is not love, which alters when its alterations finds. When a love relationship is broken, it is accompanied by heartaches and in his opinion love can also hurt, as written in sonnet 147 (Shakespeare & Booth, 2000). Looking at Donnes second sonnet song, speaker uses impossible actions and fantastic language to show love. For example, train me to hear mermaids sing. His emotions and how he feels about love can be strongly felt through his poetry. His sonnet, the canonization talks about two lovers whose love cannot be understood by anyone else (Donne & Redpath, 2009). Donne seems to tackle the ideal love from his experiences in life. He had eloped with his underage love Anne, and it is not clear whether this poem portrayed how his tiro and the society failed to understand and objected their marriage. Despite the hardship, the couple loved each other deeply. In this sonnet, nobody believed that these lovers should be allowed to be and that is why they talk ridiculously buns their back. This is a metaphor to show that they will talk and ridicule them but they will long to have a deep love just as theirs (Donne, & Stringer, 2005).

These approaches to to manage cross culture within the workplace were true by Kenneth Pike in 1954 to which his suggestion was that when both of them integrate then this is likely to yield more positive results (Ritchey, 2011). The emic approach requires the examining of each culture in order to determine the way in which those applying this approach interpret certain observable facts. The emic approach is drawn from the phonemic term and the etic

The food crisis of 2008 had been threatening for a few years, mostly Essay - 1
The fodder crisis of 2008 had been threatening for a few years, mostly affecting the poor. A variety of causes but mostly man-made - Essay poserIn this essay, the writer attempts to explicate that among variegated causes of food crisis are population explosion, mismatch of developmental priorities, environmental degradation and climate change. Population explosion The field has reached a population of 6.85 billion in the mid-year of 2010 and is estimated to reach 7 billion by the end of 2011 (Rosenberg, 2011). This increasing statistics of population could reach a peak that challenges the check resources of the world. This situation is further compounded with massive influx of people from the rural communities, with whom nations relied for agricultural production, into the urban community in search for jobs that can immediately shift labor to money. Most of whom unfortunately dwell in ghettos and less conductive urban communities, except for those who were lucky to land in corpo rate jobs or in entrepreneurial initiatives. This rise of global population and anent urbanization trend, if uncontrolled, has serious implication to food insecurity, mortality rate or severe malnourishment of children. It will chiefly affect the quality of life, delivery of social services, cause resource conflicts and increase of criminal rates and social malaise (Rosenberg, 2011). Thus, governments especially in developing countries fetch been advocating for reproductive health matters to limit populations in consideration to limited resources and services to be accorded to people. This is evidenced as crises are more felt in urban areas where people are vulnerable to volatile markets. On the other hand, rural communities are also confronted with difficulties in feeding their families with low income from farm produce against costly farm inputs and inflation (Lean, 2008) of prime commodities e.g. rice, sugar, oil and including skyrocketing prices of tuition fees in educationa l institutions, transportation and livestocks food. Housing is incredibly a problem and albeit social structure of villages, these homes are affordable only for those who have achieved a certain level of affluence to purchase properties. Indeed, increase of population means scaling up of usance and maximization of resources, hence the wanton use of rainforests and wildlife. The inability to balance human needs and protection of environment presents detrimental conditiona worlds peril and damaging conflict of resource. Mismatch of Developmental Needs Recent developments made people grow grain to make fuel. Others raise crocodiles to fashion expensive bags. The worst side of this is that some countries are producing massive pineapples, mangoes, vegetation, rice and got best fishes only to be exported to rich countries while farmers, fishers and laborer were paid barely an tot for subsistence. In some developing countries, hug trees are cut to meet the construction needs of foreign nations while those who are leaving in logged sites glut themselves with indigenous materials to live. People live in such irony. In United States, while there is recognition of decreasing wheat production as food in the last decades, whilst grain and oilseeds were also diverted for biofuelproduction (US Department of State, 2009). Such impacted to the prices of wheat and rice just as how the use of wield oil for biofuel is affecting soybeans and vegetable oilss pricing. This is further influenced by monopolistic capitals which dictate prices in the market and exacerbated the effects of inflation rates. There is therefore an imperative need to evaluate development programs

Biol - Essay Example(Lipstadt 27) Lipstadt is a well-known researcher and historian with a Ph.D. and the professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies at Emory University. (Alumni, Lipstadt Ph.D.) What Dawkins is discussing is the inevitable development of people from belief to disbelief to outright lies in the attempt to ignore what we know is true. He later makes the statement that evolution is fact not a theory and that there is a difference between the fact that is evolution and the theory of its journey (Dawkins, Ph.D. FRS, FRSL) Clearly the purpose of this book is to first discredit attempts to disprove evolutionary theory while providing a basis for his approach. It is my opinion that he does a credible job in his approach In continued variation it becomes apparent to me that he has done his research and his proofs abound. His clear delineations between the fact as he calls it and the theory of what drives it tend to be very convincing.

Management - Coursework ExampleThe example given by Ezell helps explore the question under discussion (Clawson, 2012).Laura Dickson has comprehensively discussed the ways in which leaders crowd out recognize talents. Laura highlights the role of human resources, which form a crucial part of an organizations talents (Clawson, 2012).This argument mirrors on the realization of the role that other community tail assembly play in the organization. In my understanding, the discussion by Smith majorly outlines the role of other stakeholders (such as employees) in the recognition of talents. However, the use of such strategies as promotion does not necessarily mean that talents will be easily recognizable (Clawson, 2012).In the discussion, the main elements that help in the attainment of an organizations vision are discussed. This discussion explores how leaders can build teams from individuals who possess multiple skills (Clawson, 2012).As stated in the discussion, it is crucial to liste n to the personal written report of the employees in order to ascertain what the employee likes or does not like (Clawson, 2012). Mystery religions of the Hellenistic era Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words
Mystery religions of the Hellenistic era - Essay ExampleAlthough the religions were present some(prenominal)(prenominal) years before the Hellenistic era, their popularity increased signifi basintly during this period and even spread through the entire Mediterranean region (Ferguson, 1980, p. 157). The mystery religions were created in several diverse geographical areas including India, Iran, Egypt and Greece, yet all of the mystery religions were based on myths that were very similar to each other. Although they were diverse in geographical origin, heterogeneous in historical development, and theological orientation, during the Hellenistic period the various mysteries shared a similar response to the religious needs of the day, and they resembled each other sufficiently to kisser being classified and discussed together (Meyer, 1987, p. 4). This paper will mainly focus on the Greek mystery religions in the Hellenistic period. The mystery religions, which were often considered cults , promised their chase good things although some of these promises were never fulfilled. Examples of the mystery religions were the worship of single deities like Demeter, Kore, Orpheus, Isis and Cybele (Grant, 1962, p. 98). These figures were taken from ancient myths and legends, telling stories of Demeter, the goddess of grain, and her daughter Kore, also known by the touch on Persephone, Orpheus and his lute and other major figures. (Tripolitis, 2002, p. 17) They mingle stories about the world of men and the home of the gods on Mount Olympus, relating natural events like the passing of the seasons to myths about the underworld. By attaching stories to these things, people gave meaning to their lives, and through rituals and gifts, felt that they could have some influence on how their crops would turn out, or how they would get through the darkness of winter. Although literature and write up do not always recognize the importance of the mystery religions in the Hellenistic era , they were a significant part of the Greek culture and without a surmise influenced many aspects of life. As a result of this they also affected history and there is plenty of evidence in the form of statues, ritual objects, paintings and other relics which stage how these divine figures were part of daily life. Of further importance is the legacy the mystery religions left, and how they affected subsequent religions. It appears that the mystery religions had great similarities with early Christianity. This paper will thus discuss what the mystery religions were during the Hellenistic era, how much we can find out about them and what they had in common with early Christianity. The background of the mystery religions In comparison to the previous Hellenic culture the Hellenistic society was multicultural, open, and tolerant (Mathews and Platt, 2008, p.87). Before, and during the Hellenistic period the Greek citizens worshiped the Olympian gods and goddesses. Greek religion was a n indispensable part of occult and public life and the polis and religion could not be separated (Mathews and Platt, p.43). The Hellenistic period, from the time of Alexander the Great through the Ptolemaic, Seleucid, and Antigonid Kingdoms established by his successors, witnessed the transformation of the polis (city-state). It can be argued that Alexander the Greats conquest of 336-323 B.C.E. was a main factor that initiated the profound changes to the values of the old Greek polis and the Olympian gods and goddesses linked to the polis (Meyer, 1987, p.2). These changes most likely began because of the growing contact with other civilizations, including Egypt and the New East. During this time Macedonia overtook and philosophy, religion and every other aspect of life began to change. Although heirs of the

MITOSISMEIOSIS Lab Report Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
MITOSISMEIOSIS - Lab Report ExampleThis is fol firsted by separation of daughter cadres. litotes is the type of prison cell division by which germ cells (eggs and sperm) are produced. Meiosis was first observed by the Belgian cytologist Pierre-Joseph van Beneden in 1887. Meiosis involves a reduction in the amount of genetic material. It comprises two successive nuclear divisions with only one round of DNA replication. One parent cell, at the end of one meiotic division, produces four daughter cells. Daughter cells have half the number of chromosomes found in the original parent cell and with crossing over, are genetically different. Meiosis differs from mitosis primarily because there are two cell divisions in meiosis, resulting in cells with a haploid number of chromosomes.Cell division is especially rapid in the growing spreadeagle tips of sprouting seeds. The chromosomes in dividing alkali tip cells can be demonstrated if, after sprouting seeds or bulbs, and harvesting the you ng root tips, and then fix, acid digest, stain, squash, and view them under a microscope. The root tip is the place of intense mitotic activity. This region is three dimensional and individual cells cannot be seen. It is therefore necessary to separate the cells out into a lean layer. Plant cells are glued together by the middle lamella of calcium pectate. Hydrochloric acid will dissolve this calcium pectate but leave the cellulose cell wall unaffected. In addition the acid kills and fixes the cell contents in position. Acetic orcein stains nuclei and not the cytoplasm.1. The apical 5mm from the tip of a growing lateral root of a broad bean was carefully cut.2. The root tip was placed in a watch glass containing acetic orcein stain and 1mol dm-3 hydrochloric acid in the approximate proportions 10 parts stain to 1 part acid.3. Allowed to warm for five minutes by passing repeatedly with a low Bunsen flame. 4. The fixed root tip was placed on a microscope slide and two drops of acetic orcein were added. 5. The root tip was broken up without destroying the arranging of the cells, and the root tip was spread out as thinly as possible.6. A cover slip was placed over the root tip, and covered it with blotting cover and squashed gently by pushing down on the cover slip. 7. The slide was warmed gently to intensify the stain, by quickly passing through a low Bunsen burner flame a few times.8. The slide was examined for identifying any stage of mitosis. ResultsMitosisThe four phases of mitosis- Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase- were observed under the microscope. The different phases were identified establish on the unique chromatin organization features1. Interphase Each chromosome undergoes replication, making an identical copy of itself. At this point, the chromosomes are still long and thin, and are not macroscopic inside the nucleus. Cells spend most of their life in this non-reproductive phase.2. Prophase The chromosomes coil and shorten, and become visible. It becomes apparent that the chromosomes have duplicated. Pairs of identical chromosomes remain

Psychology textbook Essay Example for Free
Psychology textbook EssayI didnt k direct that psychological science rightfully had a goal until I read the introduction to Psychology textbook. I am learning a lot of new things on this subject. For instance science of psychology has four main goals and they are as listed, described, predict, understand, and mental process and influence behavior. In my own haggling here they are. Describing collecting information from the population by accepted targeted sight. The prediction goal is self explanatory its mostly meant for making assumption or predictions of what will become of your study before you actually go what will happen. The third goal of psychology is Understand, in this area you never really know when the information that you learn will change the near day or even within the next year.Psychology is a continuously growing field and the information that is gathered is only considered as theories and eer changes, sometimes without knowledge or notice. Lets move on t o influences which in my opinion one of the most used in everyday life . for instance a toddler is encourage to learn how to walk and talk. And a teenager can be pressured into doing things and making choices that they wouldnt originally have made without the influence from their peers. Influencing people can be good too. For instance you can be influenced by coworkers and supervisors to take an open position that they feel you would get with no problem. Another warning is to get the influence to do better than you are currently doing whether it be work, school, or making a better relationship with you family. The Biology and behavior was tall(prenominal) for me to decide what constituent to write about because there were so many to choose from. I didnt want to be wrong about this section so I decided to pick the part that stood out the most to me. I am going talk about the Nervous System. Its a really important part of the system because it helps you maintain consciousness and y our behavior. The nervous system has billions of neurons. They are too, a very important part in the body because they do things such as sending messages from one end to the other end of the neuron. They are also called wires. To show why the nervous system is a really important part of the body, I will use the wires in a radio for an example. The wires in the radio are the main connection for it to bring home the bacon power to send to the wires that go throughout the radio in order to hear the sound and in for it to recognize what needs to be done when certain buttons are pressed. Without the power corduroy the radio would really have no use. When the power cord is plugged into a power out permit the power cord provides the ability for the radio to produce sound from the speakers. It enables the buttons to work properly so that you can press the play button on the radio and hear the tracks on a CD. The wires also give you the ability to actually hear the music that comes out of th e speakers. The next topics I will mention are star topology and cognizance. get-go I will mention what sensation is, it allows your brain to connect with the outer part of your body and transfer it to the inside of your body to your brain. For example, touching things with different temperature lets say you touch or hold ice. If you hold it the ice long enough you may begin to feel a numbing sensation and you may start getting cold or experiencing the chills or goose bumps. Another example would be touching something hot. Due to the high degrees in the objective lens you may experience pain or even have burn marks on your skin. Now lets move on to Perception which n my words mean, getting information and making images of them. There are a few different types of perception for instance constancy this also has different types. But for now we will use size constancy. When you look at the very same object from different angles and distances, it may appear smaller or bigger than it re ally is. Picture looking at a large building out of a window on an airplane before it takes off of the ground and gauge watching it until you get in the sky. It will appear to be much smaller than it did when you were viewing it at a closer distance but you know the actual building didnt get smaller, it was the distance that you were viewing it at that made it look a different size. We all must know that perception is just about the same in everyone and thats the reason we are able to communicate with each other.

Long period of time Essay Example for Free
Long period of time EssayWhat Techniques does demon use in Great Expectations to gain and sustain his readers attention and interest, and how effective do you historicalize these techniques? Illustrate your answer utilize examples from the text?Although Great Expectations was written some 150 years ago it is still being read even today. ogre grabs the readers attention from the really start and valetages to sustain it throughout the discussion by using a variety of techniques which I am going to explore in more depth. The chapter begins with the introduction of score and saw how his name came to be. My baffles family name being Pirrip and my Christian name being Philip this gives the reader an impression that Pip is youre genuinely clean person and the main character will most probably be Pip as he is introduced very sharply in the opening paragraph. Dickens characterises Pip and his tone of voice as learned and precise and uses formal vocabulary which may suggest he has had a good upbringing and his family argon strong on manners and respect.Pip then begins to tell the reader that he never knew his parents and has never even seen them in photos let alone real life I never saw my Father or my Mother, and never saw and likeness of either of them Although he had never seen his Mother or Father humour and pathos combine in Pips explanation of how he formed a mental image of his parents The shape of the letters on my Fathers tombstone gave me an odd mood that he was a square, stout, dark man with curly black hair Pip is shown as having a very powerful imagination and that he inevitable to create an image of his Father he never knew from whatever was left of him that he could find, even though it wasnt very promising. In the third paragraph Pip begins to describe the scenery and whereabouts of his location Ours was marsh country, down by the river, within, as the river wound, twenty miles of the sea. Pip describes the area as if a camera was scannin g the embellish and that we could see what he was describing which I think is very effective as it makes the reader more involved in the story as if they were there with him. Pips sm completelyness, slimy and vulnerability is emphasised further on in the book At such a time I found out for certain, that this bleak dress overgrown with nettles was the churchyard and that Philip Pirrip, Georgiana were knackered and buried and that Alexander, Bartholomew, Abraham, Tobias and Roger were also dead and buried. This gives the reader a sense of sympathy towards Pip as most of his family are dead and that he hasnt got much in his life. It also gives the reader an impression that Pips days are few as his family hasnt got a good track record of sustenance long and this may worry Pip. The scenery dark flat wilderness and distant savage lair reflects Pips emotional state and feeling of no hope, which backs up the idea that Pips days are few and death may be a regular recurrence the corner.D ickens uses a mixture of emotions to fully gain and sustain the readers interest, and all of the characters have different personalities and physical features. Dickens also uses characternyms as a sharp way to introduce the individuality of the character and by one soon phrase or even a word we can create a mental picture of what the character looks like. My name is Jaggers. The reader would feel by reading this that he is a hard, stern man with little emotion and that he has a jagged personality.Mr Wopsle, the clerk at the church This is a very funny name and Dickens is trying to amuse the reader as the name isnt very common.Uncle Pumblechock This is also a very funny name and suggests he may be an arrogant person with a posh, pompous personality.Dickens mixes humour with seriousness consistently throughout the course of the book and balances this just dependable to keep the reader privationing to keep going on and read more. He does this throughout the description of Mrs. Joe a nd forces the reader into creating their own image of her by saying things which collide wither little help in knowing what she may look like Not good looking. This is brief but it is backed up by an in-depth description of her personality which may help the reader complete the jigsaw in terms of Miss Joes appearance. He tells us. She must have made Joe splice her and had established a great reputation.. Because she had bought me up by hand. This gives the reader a clear idea of Mrs Joes personality as from those two phrases the reader can conglomerate that she is a very strict, temperamental and bossy woman.Dickens uses a wide variety of techniques to make his novel more enjoyable and for the reader non to want to put it down. He illustrates every scene very well by using repetition, similes and metaphors. He uses repetition as a technique to reinstate his prospect and to make the reader almost feel as if he/she is there, as the point has been emphasized twice. It was wretched weather stormy and wet, stormy and wet and bungle, mud, mud deep in all the streets It also makes us feel as if it has been raining for a long period of time.Another example of Dickens using repetition as a technique to gain and sustain his readers attention is when Pip meets the convict who when talking to Pip uses the word and many times, this shows that he feels over-whelmed by the presence of Pip and a bit scared as he stutters to find words as he uses and a lot. A fearful man all in coarse grey with a great iron on his leg. A man with no hat, and with broken shoes, and with an old rag ties round his head. A man who had been soaked in water, and smoothed by mud, and lamed by stones, and cut by flints, and stung by nettles, and torn by briars who limped, and shivered, and glared and growled and whose teeth chattered in his head as he seized me by the chin.Another technique that Dickens uses to devastating effect I feel is the dance step as this keeps the reader kindle at all times, he builds momentum up to a particular scene by keeping a consistent pace and then slows the pace down when using very descriptive language which creates suspense for the reader and keeps the readers imagination open as to what may happen next. He looked about him with the strongest air.Pulled off a rough outer coat. and. Hat. I saw that his head was furrowed and bald. Long iron grey hair growing on its sides. He stop in his looking at me, and slowly rubbed his right hand over his head. He sat down on a chair that stood by the fire, and cover his forehead with his large brown veinous hands. Towards the end of the book Dickens does the opposite and uses an acceleration of pace. They had pulled one sudden stroke ahead, had got their oars in, had a run thwart us, and were place on to out gunwale, before we knew what they were doing. This shows Pip as being excited as he is rushing what he is saying as he is not describing anything in detail and cant to say what happened.Another very good technique that dickens uses in Great Expectations is Dickenss larger than life characters that have been exaggerate to make the story come alive and more believable. A good example is Miss Havisham, as she is regularly described by Pip as some ghastly waxwork from the fair and having dark eyes. She is also described as a skeleton, and someone who had shrunk to skin and bone and having clothes that were faded and helpless their brightness. This makes the reader perceive her as a very evil and dead person. As I can see from his wide range of techniques that are employ to great effect Dickens is able to gain and sustain the readers interest from the very start and keeping it going right through to the end of the book which makes Great Expectations so well renowned even today.
