Long period of time Essay Example for Free
Long period of time EssayWhat Techniques does demon use in Great Expectations to gain and sustain his readers attention and interest, and how effective do you historicalize these techniques? Illustrate your answer utilize examples from the text?Although Great Expectations was written some 150 years ago it is still being read even today. ogre grabs the readers attention from the really start and valetages to sustain it throughout the discussion by using a variety of techniques which I am going to explore in more depth. The chapter begins with the introduction of score and saw how his name came to be. My baffles family name being Pirrip and my Christian name being Philip this gives the reader an impression that Pip is youre genuinely clean person and the main character will most probably be Pip as he is introduced very sharply in the opening paragraph. Dickens characterises Pip and his tone of voice as learned and precise and uses formal vocabulary which may suggest he has had a good upbringing and his family argon strong on manners and respect.Pip then begins to tell the reader that he never knew his parents and has never even seen them in photos let alone real life I never saw my Father or my Mother, and never saw and likeness of either of them Although he had never seen his Mother or Father humour and pathos combine in Pips explanation of how he formed a mental image of his parents The shape of the letters on my Fathers tombstone gave me an odd mood that he was a square, stout, dark man with curly black hair Pip is shown as having a very powerful imagination and that he inevitable to create an image of his Father he never knew from whatever was left of him that he could find, even though it wasnt very promising. In the third paragraph Pip begins to describe the scenery and whereabouts of his location Ours was marsh country, down by the river, within, as the river wound, twenty miles of the sea. Pip describes the area as if a camera was scannin g the embellish and that we could see what he was describing which I think is very effective as it makes the reader more involved in the story as if they were there with him. Pips sm completelyness, slimy and vulnerability is emphasised further on in the book At such a time I found out for certain, that this bleak dress overgrown with nettles was the churchyard and that Philip Pirrip, Georgiana were knackered and buried and that Alexander, Bartholomew, Abraham, Tobias and Roger were also dead and buried. This gives the reader a sense of sympathy towards Pip as most of his family are dead and that he hasnt got much in his life. It also gives the reader an impression that Pips days are few as his family hasnt got a good track record of sustenance long and this may worry Pip. The scenery dark flat wilderness and distant savage lair reflects Pips emotional state and feeling of no hope, which backs up the idea that Pips days are few and death may be a regular recurrence the corner.D ickens uses a mixture of emotions to fully gain and sustain the readers interest, and all of the characters have different personalities and physical features. Dickens also uses characternyms as a sharp way to introduce the individuality of the character and by one soon phrase or even a word we can create a mental picture of what the character looks like. My name is Jaggers. The reader would feel by reading this that he is a hard, stern man with little emotion and that he has a jagged personality.Mr Wopsle, the clerk at the church This is a very funny name and Dickens is trying to amuse the reader as the name isnt very common.Uncle Pumblechock This is also a very funny name and suggests he may be an arrogant person with a posh, pompous personality.Dickens mixes humour with seriousness consistently throughout the course of the book and balances this just dependable to keep the reader privationing to keep going on and read more. He does this throughout the description of Mrs. Joe a nd forces the reader into creating their own image of her by saying things which collide wither little help in knowing what she may look like Not good looking. This is brief but it is backed up by an in-depth description of her personality which may help the reader complete the jigsaw in terms of Miss Joes appearance. He tells us. She must have made Joe splice her and had established a great reputation.. Because she had bought me up by hand. This gives the reader a clear idea of Mrs Joes personality as from those two phrases the reader can conglomerate that she is a very strict, temperamental and bossy woman.Dickens uses a wide variety of techniques to make his novel more enjoyable and for the reader non to want to put it down. He illustrates every scene very well by using repetition, similes and metaphors. He uses repetition as a technique to reinstate his prospect and to make the reader almost feel as if he/she is there, as the point has been emphasized twice. It was wretched weather stormy and wet, stormy and wet and bungle, mud, mud deep in all the streets It also makes us feel as if it has been raining for a long period of time.Another example of Dickens using repetition as a technique to gain and sustain his readers attention is when Pip meets the convict who when talking to Pip uses the word and many times, this shows that he feels over-whelmed by the presence of Pip and a bit scared as he stutters to find words as he uses and a lot. A fearful man all in coarse grey with a great iron on his leg. A man with no hat, and with broken shoes, and with an old rag ties round his head. A man who had been soaked in water, and smoothed by mud, and lamed by stones, and cut by flints, and stung by nettles, and torn by briars who limped, and shivered, and glared and growled and whose teeth chattered in his head as he seized me by the chin.Another technique that Dickens uses to devastating effect I feel is the dance step as this keeps the reader kindle at all times, he builds momentum up to a particular scene by keeping a consistent pace and then slows the pace down when using very descriptive language which creates suspense for the reader and keeps the readers imagination open as to what may happen next. He looked about him with the strongest air.Pulled off a rough outer coat. and. Hat. I saw that his head was furrowed and bald. Long iron grey hair growing on its sides. He stop in his looking at me, and slowly rubbed his right hand over his head. He sat down on a chair that stood by the fire, and cover his forehead with his large brown veinous hands. Towards the end of the book Dickens does the opposite and uses an acceleration of pace. They had pulled one sudden stroke ahead, had got their oars in, had a run thwart us, and were place on to out gunwale, before we knew what they were doing. This shows Pip as being excited as he is rushing what he is saying as he is not describing anything in detail and cant to say what happened.Another very good technique that dickens uses in Great Expectations is Dickenss larger than life characters that have been exaggerate to make the story come alive and more believable. A good example is Miss Havisham, as she is regularly described by Pip as some ghastly waxwork from the fair and having dark eyes. She is also described as a skeleton, and someone who had shrunk to skin and bone and having clothes that were faded and helpless their brightness. This makes the reader perceive her as a very evil and dead person. As I can see from his wide range of techniques that are employ to great effect Dickens is able to gain and sustain the readers interest from the very start and keeping it going right through to the end of the book which makes Great Expectations so well renowned even today.

Critical Theory in Sociology
unfavorable Theory in SociologyThe critical system is a social guess, which is know to criticise and trying to careen society as a whole. The traditional theory only described and explained society. Theorists such as Max Horkheimer, T.W. Adorno, Herbert Marcuse, Leo Lowenthal and Reich Fromm, were the main theorists who took part in the capital of Kentucky School, In Germany in the late 1920s at the institute fur Sozialforschung. The Frankfurts schools theory of society is genuinely negative about how society runs, reasons for this is the increase in capitalism, and that societies social structure has been separated, (Swingewood 200, p. 130). Throughout the essay, there sh on the whole be more education about the Frankfurt school, and what they believed and wanted to change in society, also more information about what is critical theory and what it is critical of in society, also more information about the traditional theory. The work of Frankfurt school become very influential in the social sciences in the 1960s. Culture attention worked to put together the role of social struggles in the production and reproduction of society. Culture industry worked like an apparatus which brought together individuals and got them doing and idea the same. The critical theory may be defined as a theory of setting humankind quit of human enslavement, and manipulation. Both Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno argued that critical theory is the theory of human emancipation based on free capitalist society, the bourgeoisies controlled the working class by dint of manipulation of interests of politics, media, finishing etcas a silent dominant force. The critical theory argues that there are various types of manipulation, such as Ideological, this consists of justifying decisions made by enforcing ones thoughts onto an some other, secondly, Cultural, this consists of the attempt to commercialise to maintain the status quo of the working class. Finally the psychological man ipulation which promoter that we are more interested in other pots liveness and this is because of the decline of the father figure in many families. Horkheimer argued that a capitalist society can only be changed if it becomes more democratic is it could be that all conditions of social life that are controllable by human beings depend on real consensus in a rational society (Horkheimer 1982, 249-250). Horkheimer argued that the only counselling in which we could fix problems in society, was by introducing the critical theory. There are four main points for the faultfinding theory these are Reflective, this refers to that facts can be rewrite separately from other things that we may have to learn such as values. Dialectical this refers to humans understanding of the world changing as the world changes too. Critical which refers to stating what is persecute with the current society, and coming up with reasonable ideas on how to change it. Immanent critique is the main support for critical theory.(Adorno, 1991)Critical theorists argued that Marx did not image some key developments on capitalist society. Especially, centralisation and various mechanisms of ideological, cultural and psychological domination, associated in particular with the development of a commercialised fix media. Critical theorists conclude that the working class was no longer the revolutionary agent fore lift upn by Marx. The only room in which theorists could change the way society was is by firstly stating what is wrong(p) with the current society, has to identify the actors to change it and finally it has to provide achievable goals for social transformation. Any truly critical theory of society, Has as its mark human beings as producers of their own historical form of life (Horkheimer, 1992, 21).Critical theorists have argued that humans need to become more aware of how science and other type of facts and knowledge work together in creating oppression.Critical theory identifie s facts and everyday life as the foundation for human beings, in waiting that people will realise the power and their influences on their lives and be able to overcome them. Fredrick Taylor introduced science in the 19th century, Henry Ford among many other people was influenced by Fredrick Taylor by his ideas on how to improve and raise production. By being influenced by Fredrick, Henry Ford creating an assembly line. By doing this Ford was able to reduce hours and pay off money, at the same time produce more. This idea became very popular, companies were able to produce much more with less work due to the right machinery.subservient reason refers to the opening up of reliable modes of organisations, the critical theory criticises the instrumental reason. The reason which why critical theory is critical of instrumental reason is because it raises action, which means this would be a means to an end. The instrumental reason sees individuals as instruments instead of humans this was introduced by positivistic science. As mentioned before, in the concentration camps humans were not seen as humans, but they were seen as objects. (Swingewood, 2000). Another example of this could be the rise in tuition fees in 2010, this change would benefit large institutions, especially the government, nevertheless it does not benefit the people who would mostly experience the change of this such as students.Critical theory is also critical of mass culture, mass culture refers to individuals following and believing what the media say. An example of this can be such as girls believe it is always best to be slim. Culture industry refers to anything that gets in the way of freedom. The Frankfurt school gives us useful information about the process of how society changed from traditional culture and modernism in the arts to a mass produced media orientated society. Society has become much more media orientated as technology has become much more advanced,The traditional theory was or iginally known as the positivism theory, however, Horkheimer labelled the traditional theory. The traditional theory was based more on facts, the more facts we had about everything, the more knowledge we have. The traditional theory did not see people as humans, instead humans were looked at as things for example in the concentration camps individuals who died, were not looked at as humans dying, but a specimen. Unlike the critical theory, the traditional theory only explains how society is in the present time, where as the critical theory looks at society, what is wrong with it and aims to change it. Positivism functions ideologically, this is done by promoting passive behaviour. Habermas argued that a free society should let people communicate freely without anything getting in the way, when people can do so, this would be known as a free society. Positivists ignore the roles of humans in society, they tend to treat society as a natural process.Habermas did not agree with Adorno a nd Horkheimer views that they can identify what is wrong with society and change it, also change the whole technological interaction with nature (Habermas, 1971). Horkheimer proceed to argue that critical theory should focus on society being complete, e.g. how society became how it is in the present time. He argued this could be done by manner of speaking together major social sciences such as geography, economics, sociology, history, science etc (Bohman, 1996). Adorno and Horkheimers book Dialectic of Enlightenment, which is a text about critical theory, which explains what the Frankfurt School considered as the failure of Enlightenment, the book was published in 1944 in New York. It is one of the main core texts about Critical theory. In the book we can see how Enlightenment norms had turned into their opposite, how democracy had produced fascism and reason had produced unreason. In conclusion to the above, we can see that there are many different views on how society runs, and a s we can see is whether society is fine the way it is, or what should be changed if its not. The critical theory is obviously critical of society as it is now, The critical theory is mainly critical of how society is in terms of exploitation of humans., especially jobs such as labour work. However, the critical theory can be negatively criticised as it always looks upon society negatively. Horkheimer argued that the a theory can only be critical if it is explanatory, therefore critical theory should successfully explain what is wrong with the current society and what is needed to make it right, (Bohman, 1996). As we can see, there are many factors that affect society, also we can how society brain washes individuals to thinking that they live in an equal society system.

Circuit Switching Versus Packet Switching
Circuit break Versus mail boat SwitchingNurhazimah Binti Mohd ZabaNursyafikah Binti FarakkasiNursyahirah Binti Mohd SanusiNur Hidayu Binti SallehNur Syafiqah Binti ZulkifleeNurul Ain Binti Mohd Nassir AdabiABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to disclose diversion between software fault and circuit shimmy. Circuit switching is dedicated conversation between two stations that connected sequence of golf links between mesh nodes. It consist 3 phase communication which are establish, transfer and disconnect. Packet switching is data transmitted in small computer softwares that to each one packet contains a portion of user data plus some control cultivation. There are a few difference between packet switching and circuit switching include the bandwidth, dedicated path, call setup delay and so on.INTRODUCTIONIn telecommunication net influences they carried the information signals among an entity involved in the process of information transfer which may be in the form of a telep hone conversation. In order to connect multiple devices, it must be point to point connection between pair of devices which we called as switches. Unfortunately, it will increase the number of connection. There are two types of switching techniques including circuit switching and packet switching. Switching is a collection of switching elements arranged and controlled to setup communication path between any distant points.Circuit switching is a network which allows the associated voice which it will followed between the two respective users refer in the Figure 1 is the circuit switching network.. The end to end communication was established during the duration of the call. It is a dedicated link or path which established between the sender and the receiver. It is maintained for the entire duration of the conversation.Figure 1 Circuit SwitchingNetworkPacket switching is a network which it does not requires establishing the connection in initially. Next, the connection or channel avai lable usually apply by many users. But, if the capacity of the users increases, it will lead to congestion in the network. This network mainly used for data and voice industriousnesss requiring non-real period scenarios. It in any case throne overlay in two ways which are datagram and virtual circuit refer Figure 2 is the Packet Switching network.Figure 2 Packet Switching Network.LITERATURE REVIEWData communications dupe been achieved by using a variety network such as PSTN, leased-lines and more(prenominal) recently ISDN and air/ Frame relay. These networks are partly or totally analogue or digital using engine room such as circuit-switching, packet-switching etc. Main difference between Packet Switching and Circuit switching is that communication lines are not dedicated to passing massage from the sources to the destination. In Packet Switching, different meaning (and even different packet) can passed through the routes, and when there is a dead time in the communicatio n between the source and the destination, the lines can be used by other sources. Oguntala George Adeyinka(2013) said that packet switching is an attempt to make a better utilization of the existing network by splitting the mental object to be sent to packets. Each packet contains information about the sender, the receiver, the position of the packet in the message as well as part of the existing massage. There are many protocols defining the ways packet can be sent from the sender to the receiver. Then, Pablo Molinero-Fernandez Nick McKeown (2004) said that Circuit Switching can be decomposed into a fast path without per-packet processing, and a slower path for establishing/releasing circuit, which is similar in complexity to forwarding a single packet in Packet Switching. However the slow path needs to be taken much less often (for example, the average TCP connection lasts more than 10 packets, which mean that connection are established at an average rate at least 1/10 that of pa cket processing in router ). For these, we argue that circuit switches can operate much faster than packet switches. The concept of packet switching had two independent beginnings, with Paul Baran and Donald Davies 4. Leonard Kleinrock 5 conducted early search and authored a book in 1961 in the related field of digital massage switching (without explicity using the concept of the packet), and also later a vie a leading roles in building and management of the worlds first packet switched network, namely the ARPANET.After that, K.Giridhar stated Packet switching is also called connectionless networking because no connections are established. The advantage of the connectionless packet model in that packets are forwarded independent of other packets. Packets are forwarded on the fly by routers based on the closely current best path to a destination. If a link or routers fails, packets are quickly diverted along another path.Dr.FaridFarahmandDR.Qiong (Jo) Zhang stated the most common e xample of a circuit-switched network can be found in public telephone network (PTN) supporting services such as POTS (plain old telephone system) and long distances calls. Other examples of a circuit switched services are integrated service digital network (ISDN) and switched 56, 64, 384 (Kbps) services. The majority of wireless application protocols (WAP) enables phone also operate on top of circuit-switched networks. Furthermore, many public networks dedicated to data transport also use circuit-switching techniques an example of a network in Europe is circuit-switched public data network (CSPDN), which transport data on circuit-switching networks using the X.21 protocol. Circuit-switching also has wide applications in optical networks including wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) systems and WDM SONET networks.methodological analysisTopic for our assignment is packet switching. We make a research to get the information about this topic in library and also internet. Theres a lot information we get from internet that ready information about definition, benefit and function. The definition of packet switching give us artless introduction to us to recognize the concept of packet switching. After we find the concept, we detect out the article or daybook from internet that can give us a more information about packet switching. The article must be from year 2012 to make sure that information are relevant with our topic and current study. This article can be found from OPAC system that can used in library website. Every article has their own generator and bibliographic databases that make us easier to find the reference if theres a question refer to packet switching if we are not understand to topic. In internet, we find extra information by inserting the term of packet switching in key words in Google to get more invoice about function of packet switching. The bibliographies are used for us for further study and this way give us more information packet sw itching. The journal is created by other university and this journal help us to understand the topic. The history about packet switching also found in internet and the technology in packet switching also change and it make data can be transfer in good ways even though the data is large. Based from the information get from internet will make us more understand about the topic and help us to mastery give simple explanation about the topic of packet switching in report. After make research in internet, we go to library to find information regarding our topic which is packet switching. Theres some book that have some explanation about the benefit of packet switching. We also bop about the main concept of packet switching from the book in library. The main concepts give more information about how the packet switching work in real situation. After that, we know the weakness and benefit of packet switching in transfer data in computer or cellphone. dismantle this packet switching have a disadvantage when transferring the data and it still can function more efficient after they develop a sore technology this make sure the data can send to location. We also can refer from our senior journal in library after they make their final year project which related with topic packet switching. This information can help us to know the function packet switching with a technology that still use the concept during transferring data in destination address in packet. We also make a small interview with a friend who already work in IT department but the information that we get from him are not related to our topic. So, we are not use that information to be write in this report.Lastly, we combine all the information about packet switching that we found from internet, journal and book to be write in this report. Before we write this report, we already discuss and make some explanations in this report to make sure this report are occupy our objective to understand the topic of packet switching. We try to help each other understand the topic based from information we get from internet , journal , article and book. Everyone have knowledge and information after done this project that can be used in career life. We take about more than one month to finish this research and this report can be use as reference for our junior if they want to continue this research in their present time in future.CONCLUSIONAt the end of this article, we present the two switching techniques used in networks circuit switching and packet switching whereas datagram packet switching and virtual circuit packet switching. Then, we also are able to compare a difference between circuit switching and packet switching.REFERENCES1 Oguntala George Adeyinka, Network Solution, Applications and challenges of planetary Computing In Africa, International Journal of Scientific Engineering Research, volume 4, issues 10, pp. 884-889, October 2013.3 Pablo Molinero-Fernandez Nick McKeown, The Performances of Circuit Switching in the Internet, Computer System Laboratory, Stanford University (2004).4 Roberts L.G (1978). Arrangement charts are once in a while called occasion graphs, occasion situations.A succession chart shows, as parallel vertical lines (life savers), distinctive procedures or items that live simultaneously, and, as level bolts, the messages traded between them, in the request in which they happen. This permits the determination of simple runtime situations in a graphical way.An arrangement chart shows, as parallel vertical lines (helps), diverse procedures or items that live at the kindred time, and, as even bolts, the messages traded between them, in the request in which they happen. This permits the particular of basic runtime situations in a graphical way 32.SEQUENCE DIAGRAMFigure 4.5 Sequence diagramFigure 4.5 sequence diagram of the project explain s how the data owner requests, accept and assigns the memory. It also tells how the end user requests the cloud server through trust manager. Trust manager maintains the list of blocked and unblocked user.4.3.3 furcate DiagramClass diagrams outlines demonstrate the classes of the framework, their between connections, and the operations and characteristics of the classes. It investigates space ideas as an area modeling 33 and dissects necessities as a calculated/investigation model. It portrays the definite configuration of article situated or item based programming. The class outline is the key building piece of article arranged demonstrating. It is utilized both for widespread theoretical demonstrating of the intelligent of the application, and for nitty gritty displaying make an interpretation of the models into programming code. Class graphs can too be utilized for information demonstrating. The classes in a class chart speak to both the fundamental articles, interchanges in th e application and the classes to be modified. paintpFigure 4.6 Class diagramFigure 4.6 Class diagram of the collaboration architecture gives the details of the data owner, trust manager, end user, attacker, admin and cloud server. Data owner sees the reputation in which he can choose the best cloud which are suitable for him to upload files. The server which is having lowest reputation will be chosen subsequently Data owner registers with the cloud server giving all his detail and logins with his credentials .Data owner chooses the vm and assigns threshold value to it . If the file size is greater than the threshold value it will intimate the data owner to buy vm from another cloud provider.Trust manager is the intermediate between cloud server, data owner and End user. All the request which data owner make and end user make are through trust manager. It is the collaborative element of all the service provider. When data owner uploads the file to server it will be encrypted format. Trust manager maintains the MAC value and secret key of every file.End user in public cloud is not bothered about security. Here in this project automated password is generated by trustmanager.Secret key is entered by the end-user so that integrity of the data is maintained.

U.S Is On Its Way :: essays research papers
The Asian financial crisis serves as a timely reminder of a fact too often overlook Merchant banking is the leading edge of shareholder activism. Indeed, one of the chief traits shared by hard-hit Pacific Rim economies is a decided lack of such activism. As a result, their companies are less prepared than they might be for global competition. To one degree or an other(a), much the same holds true in other markets abroad.U.S. companies, in contrast, have seen their competitive ability markedly strengthened by shareholder activism. And much credit goes to merchant banking--that is, private investors managing their own capital. True investor activism as practiced by such financial buyers has created a new model for American enterprise. That model is based on highly leveraged capital structures, on payment and equity ownership that align the interests of managers with owners, and on effective corporate governance mechanisms to monitor and control the use of free notes flow. All have the documental of maximizing value.Contrary to popular perception, the strategies of merchant banks involve not just financial engineering, but also growth, which would not be achievable without risk capital. In the buyout world, we have seen a fundamental shift from the 1980s mantra of "unlocking value"--capitalizing on arbitrage opportunities and market inefficiencies. Today, the emphasis is on creating value by molding strategic direction, giving incentives to and empowering managers, and rationalizing operations.Increasingly, merchant banks are the key agents of change. In the 1980s, parts of the manufacturing and retailing sectors were entirely reconfigured by leveraged-buyout activity. In the 1990s, financial buyers have changed the landscape of such industries as media, broadcasting, business services, printing and publishing, and food and health services. Americas technological reemergence, captured in part by the Silicon Valley phenomenon, has been fueled by ventu re capital. And for more jump on industries, LBOs have triggered corporate renewal.Countless academic studies and real-world examples have highlighted the perils of the corporate governance status quo sans LBO the central conflict between owners and managers over the control and use of corporate resources, the unenlightened use of free cash flow, and the scrutiny of and pressure on quarter-to-quarter earnings growth versus long-term growth and value creation.By severely encumber and imposing restrictions on the use of free cash flow, LBOs force only positive net present value capital decisions. Studies have shown that operating cash flow increased on average by about 40 percent in a one-to-four-year time frame following the transaction.
